Salmon & Pumpkin Dog Treats (Egg-Free)

It's probably obvious to say that as a personal chef, I usually focus on cooking for humans. However, sometimes I put my culinary prowess to other fun and new challenges.

This is the second homemade dog treat recipe I created when my Little Sister through the Big Brother Big Sister program wanted to raise money for our local Humane Society. We decided that making and selling dog treats would be a great way to accomplish her goal- and it worked! Everyone who bought treats said that their pups LOVED these homemade-with-love dog biscuits. These dog treats make for a great gift for friends, family members, or personal chef clients!

These Salmon and Pumpkin Dog Treats are inexpensive to make and you'll feel good knowing exactly what you're feeding your loved one. Try them out and let me know what you think! I mean, what your dog thinks :)

Be sure to check out my other recipe for homemade dog treats: Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal Dog Treats.

**An important update for this homemade dog treat recipe: Please refrigerate after baking! I made these dog treats and tried to fly them on a plane to give them as Christmas gifts to my extended family. They did not hold up and became moldy within a day or two. If you refrigerate these treats they'll last a week, or you can freeze the homemade dog treats for up to 3 months.

Yield: Makes about 5 cups of nickel-sized dog treats

Ingredients:
1-14.75 oz can pumpkin purée minus 4 Tbsp
1- 14.75 oz can wild Alaska pink salmon
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 cups oat flour or blended oats (use a blender to grind your oats into a flour consistency first)

Method:
In a large blender, puree pumpkin and salmon together. Then add oats and cinnamon and blend to combine. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes. Dump half of the batter onto an aluminum- or parchment-line baking sheet sprinkled with oat flower. Using your hands, spread the mixture into a 6"x4" rectangle that is the same thickness throughout. Repeat with the other half of the batter on a different sheet pan, or wait until the first batch bakes and repeat with the second batch.

Bake at 300*F for 30 min
Raise heat to 375*F and bake another 15 min. *
Using a butter knife, cut the treats into your desired size. I did about 12x8 slices.

*Bake longer for more crunchy and dry treats.

Note- you can try these Salmon and Pumpkin Dog Treats as cat treats, too. Full disclosure my kitties did not eat them, but as a longtime cat owner I wasn't surprised!
