Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal Dog Treats
I created this recipe when my Little Sister through the Big Brother Big Sister program wanted to raise money for our local Humane Society. We decided that making and selling dog treats would be a great way to accomplish her goal- and it worked! Everyone who bought treats said that their pups LOVED these homemade-with-love dog biscuits. They're inexpensive to make and you'll feel good knowing exactly what you're feeding your loved one. Try them out and let me know what you think! I mean, what your dog thinks :)
Makes about 2.5 cups nickel-sized dog treats
Ingredients:
2- 3.5 oz apple banana puree baby food pouches
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 heaping Tbsp peanut butter
4 Tbsp pumpkin purée
2 eggs
2 c ground oats (use a blender to grind your oats into a flour consistency first)
Method:
Blend the apple-banana puree, cinnamon, peanut butter, and pumpkin puree in a large blender. Add eggs and blend until combined. Add the oats to the blender, mixing 1/2 c in at a time. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes. Dump the batter onto an aluminum- or parchment-line baking sheet sprinkled with oat flower. Using your hands, spread the mixture into a 6"x4" rectangle that is the same thickness throughout.
Bake at 300*F for 20 min
Raise heat to 375*F and bake another 15 min. *
Using a butter knife, cut the treats into your desired size. I did about 12x8 slices. Keep the treats smaller as the peanut butter can be sticky in your dog's mouth.
*Bake longer for more crunchy and dry treats.
Treats keep for 2 weeks at room temp, or up to 1 month in the refrigerator.
Note- you can try these as cat treats, too. Full disclosure my kitties did not eat them, but I wasn't surprised!
